The Delta Islanders Jr A Lacrosse Club competes in the B.C. Junior 'A' Lacrosse League. The league consists of 8 teams from the Lower Mainland, Nanaimo, and Victoria. They all compete for the honor of a National Championship, the famed 'Minto Cup', one of Canada's oldest sports award.
In the spring of 2001 a number of volunteers from the surrounding area of Delta, collectively assembled to discuss the possibility of obtaining an expansion Junior 'A' franchise within the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League team for Delta.
After much deliberation and consultation the Board of Governors of the B.C. Junior 'A' Lacrosse League met and granted a franchise to Delta. The team would be named the Delta Islanders Jr A Lacrosse Club.
Organized lacrosse in Delta dates back to 1912. Since that time,. As of 2012 The Delta Islander Jr 'A' Lacrosse Club, operates an elite five year box lacrosse program specifically committed to developing box lacrosse players between the ages of 17 and 21. The program is comprised of two teams the Jr 'A' team (17—21 year olds) and a development Intermediate 'A' team (17—18 year olds). Many of these fine exceptional and talented players have perfected their skills and abilities in Canada's National Summer Sport and have gone on to be stars in the Western Lacrosse Association and Professional Lacrosse Leagues. This longevity and sportsmanship has bred outstanding citizens and created respect for the youth of this first-rate community of Delta.
Lacrosse in Delta represents the Corporation of Delta from the boundaries of Scott Road in North Delta to Boundary Bay in Tsawwassen thereby uniting our community. The sport has gained tremendous recognition for Delta from numerous areas throughout British Columbia.
Junior 'A' lacrosse in Delta is the premier sporting event in Delta for the lacrosse enthusiasts. The BCJLL draws the best Junior aged players from across Canada thus presenting Lacrosse at its highest level outside of the professional game.
Our group is non-profit and is registered in accordance with the British Columbia Societies Act. We are a group of volunteers that only seek to promote this exciting sport to all players, regardless of age or division as well as to the community.
The coaching and management teams are dedicated to building a 'Championship Team' and furthermore are good ambassadors for this great game of lacrosse.
